Music: Music is pretty good and true to the Japanese style of Dragon Ball. If they had an "autoplay" button for the text boxes where you don't have to press X every 5 seconds and eliminated the awkward pauses between each character's dialogue, these would be acceptable but in the current form they are just lazy and poorly done. There are so many of these text boxes which makes the sheer amount of voice work done in this game impressive, but obviously it is inferior to just watching the anime or manga. The other method they use are simple text boxes with no character movement but do have voice work done. The first are poorly done cutscenes with minimal movement and awkward pauses that often are slowly paced and clearly inferior to watching the show or reading the manga. Instead, they opted to cover all of the DBZ sagas and to tell the rest of the story, there are 2 other methods used. If the game focused on a specific saga and made all the cutscenes like this, it would objectively be a more polished and critically acclaimed game. There is real effort on the CG and the explosions and special moves are genuinely more impressive than the original show with impressive voice work to top it all off. The first is the beautiful cinematic CG cutscenes (there are about an hours worth of these cutscenes). Story: From a storytelling standpoint, DBZ Kakarot's story is told in 3 different ways. Maybe comparing it to something content-filled like Xenoverse 2 or the infinite playability of DBZ Fighterz online mode has some people want the game to be played indefinitely but that isn't what DBZ Kakarot and many RPG games are made to be. Speaking of which, it seems Attack of the Saiyans has inspired this game in several ways (just look at the world map or how the dragon balls are gathered and work for example, but that discussion is for another day).įrom a DBZ RPG perspective, the comments that this game does not have enough content are just misguided. No question this game has more several times more content than previous DBZ RPG games such as Attack of the Saiyans (my favorite DBZ game of all time), and the Legacy of Goku series. Here's my review.Ĭontent: This game is jam packed with content with lots of areas to explore (even lots of underwater areas!), tons of cutscenes, voice work, side quests, training, wildlife, game mechanics from community boards and soul emblems to skill trees and support characters etc. Either way, I think most reviewers did not dissect and explore this game enough to give the information prospective buyers need.
